The Louisville AIDS Walk NEEDS your help! Sign up and donate today!

In less than a month, the Louisville AIDS Walk will celebrate its 17th year — will you be part of it?

Since 1993, the Walk has united Louisvillians of all backgrounds to join against the struggle of AIDS, stand with those living with HIV and remember loved ones who have passed on. The event, which is the largest fundraiser in the state for this issue, helps clients who provide services and treatment for those living with HIV or AIDS.

Unfortunately, times have been tough for everyone, including the AIDS Walk. Due to the recession many sponsors have had to withdraw their contributions or give less. Just as worse, participation has dropped significantly. Last year, 130 AIDS Walk teams took part and $41,000 was raised through online donations. As of right now, there are only 58 teams and only $4,900 has been raised, which is just over 1/10 of last year’s amount.

But it’s not too late to get involved! Louisville AIDS Walk has traditionally seen a huge rise in donations and signups the month before the event. Even though the dip in activity is steep, a lot can be done within 24 days.

How do you get involved? It’s easy. Sign up as an individual or as part of a team. Just go to the Web site (http://louisvilleaidswalk.org) and create your own profile. Once this is set up, visitors can sponsor you or your team through donations (which are tax deductible). You can also download a pledge form and collect donations in person. If you want to take it to the next level, you can also become a sponsor of the event at various levels.

And just as important, PASS THIS ON. There are thousands of people who live with HIV or AIDS around the state who depend on treatment and services the AIDS Walk help funds. Despite the advances in medicine, AIDS cases continue to increase and the rates of HIV infections have grown in Kentucky, as funding for care has dropped. Your donations and commitment to the cause will not only help those in need, but stop the spread of this epidemic and the devastation it brings to them and their families’ lives.
